WE SPOKE WITH ERIC ARMSTRONG, VICE PRESIDENT, AND GM AT SPEED RACEWAY TO FIND OUT HOW BOXBLASTER VR ATTRACTION IS PERFORMING AT HIS LOCATION. Read on to find out how an entertainment option intended to be just an add-on, is turning into a customer attracting experience.
Could you give us a bit of a background about your venue and its specificities?
Yes. We are one of the largest indoor electric kart racing facilities on the east coast - with 90’000 square feet of racing space. We are located in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, and offer race experiences to all kinds of customers - walk-ins, corporate groups, families, and anyone looking for some exciting driving.
How did you discover Boxblaster VR?
We noticed your attraction at the IAAPA Expo. After trying it out, we realized that your VR experiences are unique and would fit well with the competitive environment at Speed Raceway. We were looking to diversify our offer and add something different for our clients to try, so we decided to go with Boxblaster VR.
How is Boxblaster VR working for you thus far?
It’s doing well. The unit itself is beautiful; we love the design, so we’ve placed the arena dead center at our facility and put spotlights on it to draw even more attention. Now, everybody who passes by gets interested, and many come up to try it out. We’re also planning to do some tournaments with VR as our customers already come with a competitive mindset. We have leaderboards for our go-karts, and we might try it out for Boxblaster VR games so that people can try to outperform some scores.
Which games does your audience like the most?
Our attendant plays a significant role in helping customers choose which game to play depending on their age and what they may like, but Gold and Mace is most popular because it appeals to all ages. Everyone wants to battle these flying knights and explore every battle option. We see customers laughing and cheering as they see what different ammo can do and try to figure out what’s better - a spear or a crossbow.
Can you give us some details about the commercial success you’ve had with Boxblaster VR?
In terms of traffic to our business, we usually have about 50 walk-ins per day during the week and 1’800-2’500 on peak days like Saturdays. So, initially, we only expected VR to serve as an add-on for our existing clients, not as a way to attract new ones. But after installing Boxblaster VR, we started receiving requests for VR parties specifically! It was a pleasant surprise, and we are now discussing adding a tournament or league night with your player-vs-player title to accommodate those seeking even more of a competitive element. I think Boxblaster VR can be a great addition to any entertainment center that wants to diversify its revenue stream while also staying at the forefront of innovation and offering unique experiences.
